The Department of Health supplied Iloilo City with some 2,000 vials of flu vaccines for senior citizens.
Dr. Mae Delmo, CHO Assistant Department Head, said due to limited supply of vaccines priority was given the indigents especially those identified by the National Household Targeting System of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.
“But hopefully we can get more from DOH by the end of the year so we can extend the immunization to all senior citizens in the city,” she said.
Delmo added that elderly people are more susceptible to pneumonia because of their advanced in years, but with the flu vaccination, they could at least minimize their succumbence.
“We are thankful to the DOH for their support to our health programs especially in making sure that the well-being of our elderly people are protected,” Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said.
Last year, Mabilog personally provided senior citizens with multivitamins which were given to them on a first-come, first-served basis when they processed their identification cards at the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs.
