Panay Electric Company (Peco) has assured that by June 5, all houses will light up for the 79 family beneficiaries of the relocation site in Jaro district as electrical connections are already being done.

Peco Vice President Randy Pastolero made the assurance after representations by the City Government and the Iloilo River Development Council was firmed up with the city waiving all the requirements to have an electrical connection meter.

Earlier, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has requested Peco to fasttrack the electrical connections so that river-dwelling families at the Iloilo River in Barangay North San Jose, Molo can transfer to the River Plains Subdivision Phase I site before the school opening in June.

Waived by the City Government are requirements such as tax declaration, electrical inspection permit by the city engineer's office, and electrical inspection permit by the Bureau of Fire Prevention.

Pastolero said they are working overtime on the electrical connections by setting up Peco's own transmission lines and transformers at the 5.6-hectare relocation site along the radial road.

Relocatees will have to apply for a low load connection and everything is now in place.

Wilfredo Jurilla, chief Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office, said the National Housing Authority (NHA) is also finishing 121 housing units aside from the 79 units and intended for the identified relocatees.

The housing units are also for the 110 families who are victims of a big fire in Tabucan, Mandurriao early this year.

A total of 1,000 families are slated to transfer and be relocated at the 5.6-hectare relocation site in Lanit. Another batch of 1,000 families are also slated for transfer to the Sooc relocation site in Arevalo by the end of this year.

Mabilog said the lots were purchased by the City Government and the houses are being constructed with funding of more than P300 million taken from the NHA, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Office of the President. By Lydia Pendon
