Government-Industry-Academe addresses skills mismatch

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and members of the private sector and academe recently met to discuss developments of Government-Industry-Academe (GIA) council in addressing skills mismatch in Iloilo City.

They were Iloilo Business Club executive director Lea Lara, Allan Son Tan of Iloilo Builders Inc. / Dream Believe Connect and Department of Education City Division Superintendent Clarissa Zamora.

The Dream Believe Connect set a presentation at the Iloilo Convention Center May 23.

Mabilog stressed the GIA initiative is an effective public-private partnership in ensuring that graduates will land a job after graduation.

The program promotes Grade 9-10 students' immersion to different industries which will allow them to decide what is the best course for them in college.

GIA also projects 10-year target for growth sectors to plan and implement programs in city government-owned and operated schools including Iloilo City Community College and Technical Institute of Iloilo City.

Mabilog said the model best practice is part of promoting inclusive growth for the Ilonggos. [via Iloilo City Gov't]
