District Engineer Rodney Gustilo of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the retroffiting works will strengthen the bridge foundation and will take about 90 days work in the lower portion of the bridge.
However, rehabilitation works on the upper portion will only take less than one month and traffic will resume on regulated scheme immediately. The odd-even scheme will be implemented for private vehicles while exempted are public utility vehicles, government vehicles and ambulances.
Gustilo said the contractor is Manila-based Legacy Construction with a bid price of P26.7 million.
The Traffic Management and Transport Regulation Office (TMTRO) is devising temporary alternative routes for vehicles coming from the central and northern parts of Iloilo which may pass along the circumferential road, radial road and coastal road in going to the city and back.
