Ajinomoto® Umami Culinary Challenge National Cooking Showdown at ICON

The Visayas leg of Ajinomoto® Umami Culinary Challenge (UCC) will be held at the Iloilo Convention Center on November 27, 2015 from 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM. This event will be a showcase of talent, where the best teams can earn the privilege of representing the Visayas region in the National Cooking Showdown set on January 30, 2016 at the Philippine Trade and Training Center in Manila.

Ajinomoto puts together the best culinary teams from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in one (1) cooking arena during the National Cooking Showdown to give each regional finalist opportunities to shine while working on their masterful culinary creations.

In last year’s National Cooking Showdown, Visayas’ Hercor College came in first for the Best Filipino Umami Dish Category, while Luzon’s University of Santo Tomas won My Own Umami Creation Category.

For this year, the contenders from Mindanao will be University of Southern Mindanao for the Best Filipino Umami Dish Category and Liceo de Cagayan University for My Own Umami Creation Category. Both teams competed and topped 18 schools at UCC Mindanao last August 2015.

Regional winners will receive the following prizes: first place winners – gold medals and P10,000, second place winners – silver medals and P8,000 and third place winners – bronze medals and P5,000. Teams who will compete for the National Cooking Showdown in Manila will have a chance to win additional P15,000.




Ajinomoto® UCC is the new home where food and culinary enthusiasts meet with a common dedication to unite taste and health in food preparations. The event will be graced by culinary luminaries: Ms. Nancy Reyes-Lumen as Competition Director, and Chef Sau Del Rosario and Chef Eugene Raymundo as competition judges. This event is presented by AJINOMOTO PHILIPPINES CORPORATION in partnership with La Germania and Solane.
