Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said that he would like the equipment to really serve their purpose. This as Smart Telecommunications has already donated the network service for the cameras that the city government purchased.
Among the areas considered to install the CCTV cameras are the junction of the Bonifacio Drive and Valeria streets and intersection along General Luna street and Plazoleta Gay, Guanco, Aldeguer and Ledesma streets.
The use of CCTV cameras has long been pushed by the city government as one strategy to deter criminal activities and assist authorities in their crime investigations.
Through the CCTV Ordinance, its installation is now mandatory for all high-risk businesses such as banks, lending, money changer, pawnshops and other financial institutions, hotels, shopping malls and other possible target of lawless elements.
The installation of CCTV has also been made a prerequisite for the application for renewal of business permits this year.
Police stations in the city are also equipped with at least three CCTV cameras each. They were installed last year with the support of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Iloilo, Inc. (PCCII). (Source:PNA)
