Mabilog gives top premium to health services

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has institutionalized the “womb to tomb” health programs for the people in Iloilo city as major component of his 10-point agenda during his first term of office.

The city is implementing ongoing health projects with the recent completion of Iloilo city hospital located at the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) compound in Mandurriao district.

The hospital is a two storey building with 40-bed capacity and manned by the medical staff of doctors, nurses and midwives temporarily pulled from the La Paz Maternity Hospital which is now undergoing expansion and renovation.

City hospital facilities such as operating room, delivery room, laboratory and other amenities are assured by WVMC and priority patients are those indigents with Philhealth cards and residents of the city.

Other health services are free prenatal, immunization, medical and dental services at the district city health centers and child delivery at identified health centers and hospitals.

The daily supplemental feeding program is expanded in 135 daycare center feeding 6,750 children every day with a Busog Lusog Program in cooperation with Western Visayas College of Science and Technology.

Financial assistance to the indigents is ongoing with free embalming, coffin and funeral services.

Similarly, coverage from the Philippine Health Insurance Corp is expanded to 52,000 beneficiaries with an additional 12, 000 from the NHTS. The city becomes the second largest Philhealth coverage in the entire country in 2013.

The city is also a national Red Orchid Award winner with honors given by the Department of Health in recognition of the city’s anti smoking campaign. By Lydia C. Pendon
