Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog on Monday received the refrigerator and chairs for the facility on behalf of the the city government.

“This will be a big help to lactating moms especially our employees for now they have an area to express their milk and store it in a place to ensure its freshness,” Mabilog said.

The city government, NAPC and ILO also signed a memorandum of agreement regarding the use of the equipment.

Mayor Jed thanked NAPC undersecretary and director general Florencia Dorotan and ILO project coordinator Lady Kristine Cruz who came for the turn-over and the training which followed regarding the use of monitoring and evaluation tool in setting-up a public nursing station here.

Iloilo City together with the cities of Naga and Zamboanga were earlier identified to be part of a joint program through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Achievement Fund implemented by ILO.

The program creates an enabling environment and encourages women workers and nursing mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding in the formal and informal workplace.

It is geared towards contributing to the achievement of the MDG in addressing extreme poverty, hunger, and reducing child mortality rate by complementing the government’s efforts of improving infant and young child feeding practices among children 0-24 months old. (PNA)
