Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said such privilege benefits the senior citizens and gives them the opportunity to enjoy and be entertained.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod here gave Mabilog authority to enter into any and all agreements to promote the free admission with the management of cinemas through the passage of Regulation Ordinance No. 2013-041 “establishing guidelines to facilitate and promote the free movie admissions of senior citizens at the movie houses, cinemas and theaters in the City of Iloilo.”
It prescribes that “all senior citizens holding their Identification Card and a specially designed movie pass issued by the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs shall enjoy the privilege of free movie admission at all cinemas here provided that they are residents for at least one year and a registered voters of the city.”
Every qualified senior citizen shall be allowed to avail of free movie privilege to one film every Tuesday only.
The free movie pass is not available during the first week of the movie's opening, first two weeks screening of Metro Manila Film Festival, special and regular holidays, and 3D movies.
“The ageing population mostly has a limited means to enjoy life to the fullest as they are usually dependent on their children for support. In partnership with the City Government, cinemas management agreed to extend the privilege to the senior citizens,” the ordinance stated.
Senior citizens have a big role in the moral and social cultural well-being of the city. Thus, they are being recognized with the provisions of benefits and privileges for their recreation, fun and wellness projects to make them feel the city government cares for them, Mayor Mabilog said.
The free movie for the elderly was introduced way back in 2011 but it was halted and revived with the passage of the ordinance. (Source:PNA)
