Drop-out rate in Iloilo City public schools down 4%

Iloilo City’s drop-out rate in public elementary and high schools decreased by .60% and 3.48% respectively in 2012 compared to 2011.

The number of high school students who left school was reduced to 9.45% last year compared to 12.93% in 2011. The number of pupils who stopped schooling was down to 0.88% last year compared to 1.48% in 2011.

Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said the development is the fruits of educational efforts to enhance the improvement of public school system to provide quality learning and prepare the youth for a brighter future.

“The City Government always puts utmost attention to educational development because we recognize its crucial contribution in nation-building and in our growth as a people,” he stressed.

Mabilog cited the impact of an educated and productive citizenry in fighting poverty and pushing a united struggle towards persistent pursuit for progress.

Enrollment increased in kinder by 629 to 5,818 from 5,189; elementary by 2,986 to 50,477 from 47,491; and secondary by 121 to 20,982 from 20,861 this school year compared to last year.

This year’s enrolment data are initially recorded but still subject for updating.
