“We are correcting the wrong of the past and should not be selective in allowing investors to put a cockpit arena as provided for in the law. Cockfighting is not illegal per se but only the unlicensed and not accredited cockfighting arena,” Acap added.
Fellow councilors Jay Treñas and Jason Gonzales openly opposed the proposed ordinance, while Plaridel Nava and Joshua Alim also have some reservations.
Currently there are two licensed cockpits in the city, the Iloilo Coliseum in Jaro district and another one in Mandurriao.
