Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said that sustaining the “Matuwid na Daan” of President Benigno S. Aquino III will pave the way for the realization of a bridge that will connect Iloilo and Guimaras.

Speaking during Sunday’s Paraw Regatta Festival, Mabilog poited out that Iloilo has been a recipient of big projects because of the efforts of Senate President Franklin M. Drilon with the full support of President Aquino.

“This bridge will be realized if we continue to support Senator Drilon and President Aquino by pushing for the Tuwid na Daan,” the mayor said.

Last month, Drilon already announced that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has sought the assistance of the South Korean government in the conduct of feasibility study for the proposed 2.6-kilometer bridge.

Its realization is expected to boost development in the province due to ease in transportation. Currently, one may take a pumpboat or take the roll on-roll off vessel when traveling to Guimaras.

Meanwhile, Danielle R. Del Rosario, assistant vice president for corporate affairs of the Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corporation, said that the proposal is “something very exciting” as they have an existing project in Guimaras, which is the 54-megawatt wind farm in San Lorenzo town.

She said that the project provides “clean and sustainable energy to the Panay Grid with enough capacity to power up 28,000 homes and reduce carbon footprint by around 1.3 million tons during the 20-year project life.”

Over the years given our confidence in Iloilo and the region the Phinma Group has already invested over PHP7 billion in businesses within Iloilo and Guimaras and we will be very happy to continue to explore additional investment opportunities,” she said.
