Mabilog signed on Wednesday an Executive Order for the suspension although he emphasized that “there will be classes in the morning.”
He also stressed that the conduct of the event and other similar events next year shall be held on a Saturday so as not to disrupt the regular schedule of classes. Here's the full text of announcement as posted in his official Facebook page:
ANNOUNCEMENT: CLASSES SHALL BE SUSPENDED ON FRIDAY FOR THE OPENING SALVO OF THE DINAGYANG FESTIVAL.
By virtue of an Executive order to be signed this afternoon, Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog will suspend classes on friday afternoon, January 6 for the opening salvo of the dinagyang festival 2017. This is in all levels in the City of Iloilo. There will be classes however in the morning.
In relation to this, next year conduct of pamukaw, opening salvo and other events shall be held on a saturday (instead of Friday) as not to disrupt the regular schedule of classes.
Tribes to perform first at Stage 1 (Freedom Grandstand) are Paghidaet and Obreros; Stage 2 (Capitol), Pan-ay and Amihan; Stage 3 (Mabini-Delgado), Buntatalanit and Salognon; Stage 4 (Quezon-Ledesma), Dagatnon and Panayanon and Stage 5 (Ma. Clara), Ilonganon and Abiador.
The Traffic Management and Traffic Regulations Office (TMTRO) declared that traffic rerouting will be imposed and road closures will start at exactly one o’clock in the afternoon. [via PNA]
