Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog gave certificates of recognition and appreciation to medalists Floramie Navales, Justin Clark Gancero, Lovett Shauden Uy de Ong, Vicente Gella II, and twins Lance Izak and Laurence Izaiah Fermiza.
City Hall also provided incentives of P5,000 for each gold medal, P3, 000 for each silver medal, and P2, 000 for each bronze medal.
Navales bagged gold medal in Individual Poomsae Senior Women Black Belt Division and bronze medal in World Class Sparring Senior Women Feather Division.
Gancero won gold medal in Individual Poomsae Senior Men Black Belt Division and silver medal in World Class Senior-Men Light/ Welther Division.
Uy de Ong gained gold medal in Individual Poomsae Senior Men Black Belt Division and silver medal in World Class Senior Men Fin/ Fly Division.
Gella took silver medal in Grassroot Sparring Brown Belt Division.
Lance Izaak won the gold medal in Individual Poomsae Brown Belt Division and in Color Belt Sparring Male Cadet Divion while his twin, Laurence Izaiah won the silver medal in Individual Poomsae Black Belt Cadet Division.
They are members of Iloilo Taekwondo Association based in Jaro district.
City Sports Development Officer Rommel Castro said the taekwondo titlists brought pride to the city.
“It will inspire young to do their best and at the same time, this is an honor for us because our players can win in world tournaments. Iloilo City is strong in taekwondo, that is why the City Government is really giving importance to our players,” he stressed.
The City Sports Office is holding free summer clinic wherein taekwondo is one of the sports being taught to participants. [via Iloilo City PIO]
