Ilonggo Senator Franklin M. Drilon recently disclosed the inclusion of incremental funds to the Bureau of Immigration for the purchase of five passport reading machines needed at the Iloilo International Airport.

The local airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo is now servicing direct international flights of twice a week to Hongkong and thrice a week direct to Singapore.

Drilon admitted that him and Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog are aware of the needs at the Iloilo airport and vowed to help facilitate the budget for passport scanners to be included in the 2013 budget amounting to P2.006 trillion.

Mabilog, on the other hand, facilitated the donation from a private businessman of four computers to be used as temporary and manually operated scanners at the airport. Smart Telecommunications, through the intercession of the Department of Tourism, also donated two computer units to be used as scanners.

Drilon said the modern passport scanners to be installed by the Bureau of Immigration at the Iloilo International Airport are comparable to machines used in other international airports in big cities of the world. (Source: PNA)
