Iloilo NFA Asst. Manager Jose Pacificador said the total bags of rice inventoried in their warehouses, Ilonggo households and commercial traders is equivalent to 2.5 million bags.
“If we will compute the 2.5 million bags it would last for 121 days because the daily consumption of Ilonggos is 21,080 bags,” Pacificador explained.
NFA will also transport 80,000 bags of rice to Region 8 next week. Pacificador said that the shipment of rice is part of the commitment of the NFA Iloilo provincial office to help the rice deficient region, particularly Baybay and Maasin City, capital of Southern Leyte.
Considered as a rice sufficient province, Iloilo is aiding Region 8 with the rice shipment. The shipment included 50 percent iron fortified rice and well milled rice.
The fortified rice stocks are for the region's Food-for-School program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The other rice stocks are used as relief assistance during disaster and rice provision for the inmates of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. (Source: PNA)
