Dr. Tayag was in to Iloilo Wednesday to give updates on the Zika virus, which has already affected seven Ilonggos.
“If you want to be Zika-free, do the 4S,” Tayag pointed out.
The 4S Strategy stands for Search and destroy mosquito breeding places, Self-protection measures like using insect repellent and mosquito bed nets especially at day time, as well as the use of condom for protection against this sexually transmitted infection, Seek early consultation for skin rashes and fever, joint pain or red eyes and Say Yes to fogging when there is an impending outbreak.
The number of Zika patients in this city rose to seven with four additional positive tests that were confirmed by the DOH on Tuesday. The four new cases are found in Arevalo district with two cases and in the districts of Molo and Jaro with one case each.
Tayag said that Iloilo City will again be Zika-free if there will be no more Zika positive 45 days after the last reported case.
“If the last case here was last September 19 and on the next 45 days there will be no more cases, you will be again on the list of those areas that are Zika-free,” he said.
Meanwhile, City Health Office (CHO) chief Bernard Caspe said that they will start Inside Residual Spraying (IRS) in the top 10 barangays in this city with highest number of dengue cases on Thursday.
The spraying will start in Gran Plains Subdivision (Barangay MV Hechanova) and Alta Tierra Village (Barangay Quintin Salas and to other barangays namely Balabago, Sambag and MH Del Pilar in Jaro; Bakhaw, Bolilao and Guzman-Jesena in Mandurriao; Jereos in La Paz; and Calaparan in Arevalo.
He added that they will also include barangay San Juan in Molo district and Santa Cruz in Arevalo district because of the recent reported Zika cases. [via PNA]
